Orlando Raccoon Control Tip: If You See a Raccoon in the Daytime, Is It Rabid?
Raccoons are nocturnal critters. because of their terrible eyesight, they would be in a great deal of trouble if they were out during the daytime. Potential predators would have a clear advantage over them, and this is why they forage for food during the dark hours.

However, there is an instance where a raccoon will be out during the daytime. This is when the animal has some type of severe injury or illness, which may make you wonder if you see a raccoon in the daytime if it is rabid?

The Odds Are Good
Because raccoons avoid being out in the daytime, the only reason it would be out would be if it has some type of issue with its brain, either through disease or injury. The natural instinct of this animal is to avoid being out during the daytime, so that instinct must have been compromised.

While you cannot be absolutely certain that it is rabies that has caused it to act irrationally, that is one of the indicators. A rabid raccoon could very well be out during the daytime, so there is a good possibility that this is the problem.

Are There Other Signs?

There are two symptoms that are commonly seen in rabid animals. The first of these is a frothing at the mouth. If you are seeing a white discharge around the mouth of the raccoon, you can be absolutely certain that animal has rabies.

In addition, because of the damage to the brain, rabid animals are extremely violent. If the animal is acting in an aggressive manner, maybe even coming after you, then it is quite likely this animal has rabies.

What to Do?
If you come across an animal that likely has rabies, then your first step is to get as far away from it is possible. Don't take a long look to see, especially if it is coming toward you. A bite or scratch from this animal could be terminal for you, so getting away from it as quickly as possible is necessary.

You should also contact your local animal control agency. If there is a rabid raccoon traveling through your neighborhood or near your business, they need to know about it. This animal will have to be captured and destroyed as quickly as possible before somebody or something gets bitten by it.

Understand that if one of these raccoons bit a dog, it could spread that disease across the neighborhood. This is why you need to contact them right away.
